Slime making science activity instructions

Product Description

SLIME
This is a chemistry experiment that demonstrates how adding one substance to another can create a completely different substance.
Scientists pick the color of their "slime" and experiment with mixing of colors (i.e. red + blue = purple). When the experiment is finished, the scientist/artist ends up with a fun new toy to take home or keep at school.
INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup White glue
1/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon borax laundry detergent
6-8 drops of food coloring
INSTRUCTIONS
Put glue in a cup or bowl
add food coloring and stir
mix Borax with water
add Borax/water mix to glue
mix until slime is not "gluey"
By combining non-toxic substances you will experience mixing of colors, changing of form, chemical transformation and the creation of colorful, tactile putty (a.k.a. Gak, Oobleck, Slime).
This is a great example of science and art integration and is safe for ages 3 and up. Loads of fun!
Classroom tip: It is fun to combine a bit of everyone,s slime in a tray, bowl or mold and watch the substance and colors combine. We often subject it to different conditions to see how the slime changes over days, weeks and months. Freeze it, put it out in the sun, heat it up, etc.
